Answer #: 1751
Summary of asked question:
With regard to receiving amount of Zakat, you have written that one can take the zakat amount if he is “Mustahiq”; a real deserving for zakat as per Shariah. My father has saved Rs 50,000 or Rs 60,000 after his sheer hardwork and struggle of 30 years and he has told me that he has kept this amount for my marriage and Walima ceremony. In this situation, am I eligible to take Zakat ? Am I still ‘mustahiq’ for Zakat?
الجواب حامدا ومصلیا
If the adult (grown up, baligh) children of a a rich man (a person who is liable to give Zakat, ‘Sahib-e- Nisab’) are poor (meaning by that they donot have 52.5 ‘tola’ of Silver /Chandi, or amount equal to its value or extra/spare house hold goods in their possession ) , they can be given Zakat. As per the Question you asked and situation therein, You can get Zakat as You donot have 52.5 ‘tola’ of Silver /Chandi, or amount equal to its value or extra/spare house hold goods in your own possession. Furthermore, the amount which you have mentioned in your question cannot be termed as yours because you are not its real owner and it is not in your actual possession. So, you do not become Sahib-e-Nisab because of this amount.
