What does the scholars and jurists say about the total number of prophets (may peace be upon them); someone says it is 124,000, some says more than this and some say less than this so what is the correct answer?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
The exact number of prophets (may peace be upon them) is not known, there are statements about 124,000 and more or less than that. Therefore should have iman (belief) on all the prophets (may peace be upon them) whatever their exact number is.
"قولہ : کالایمان بالانبیاء لان عددھم لیس بمعلوم قطعا،فینبغی ان یقال :آمنت بجمیع الانبیاء او لھم آدم وآخرھم محمد علیہ وعلیھم الصلوۃ والسلام معراج ، فلا یجب اعتقاد انھم مائۃ الف واربعۃ وعشرون الفا،وان الرسل منھم ثلثمائۃ وثلاثۃ وعشرون؛لانہ خبر آحاد۔" (ردالمحتار: 1/527)
